An Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa
State, on Tuesday remanded an applicant, Emmanuel Agbo, in police
custody for alleged gang rape.
The presiding judge, Mr. Vincent
Gwahemba, gave the order after police prosecutor, Joseph Ahua, urged the
court not to grant bail to the accused because investigation was still
ongoing.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Gwahemba adjourned the case till February 26, 2014 to enable the police to conclude investigations.
Earlier, Ahua told the court that the accused and three others, now at large, conspired and deceived the complainant.
Ahua said that they picked her up in a vehicle with an unknown registration number, after luring her through the social media.
He said the accused person and his accomplices, gang-raped the woman.
Ahua alleged that they took her to Aso `B’ Mararaba, where they threatened her, stole her two Blackberry phones, and N8, 000.
The prosecutor said that the offence
contravened sections 97, 397, 292, 244 and 283 of the Penal Code, which
attracts 28 years imprisonment on conviction.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
